I finally decided to create another adminaccount and try using that for the search services. I've seen blogs aboutsome cases wherepeoplehad permissions issues with the search service account, but this isn't the case since I'm using an admin account for the search service account. I still got the gatherer is shutting down when trying to configure search on the "Services On This Server" Central Admin page. Changing the location didn't help me, though.

This thread is locked for I still go the gatherer is shutting down error after doing that. Access to module dbo.proc_GetRunnableWorkItems is blocked because the signature is not valid. Clearly there are numerous reasons for getting this error.
